Twenty-five people have been reportedly injured when a truck which belongs to Dangote Cement, crushed seven vehicles in Cross River State.
The accident, which was caused by the recklessness of the driver, made him lose control of the truck.
According to Punch, the vehicles involved in the accident are “a Toyota Sienna (Abuja: HZ 719 ABC); Volkswagen Golf (Akwa Ibom: AE 900 TTU); Suzuki (Cross River: DUK 17 XA); Mercedes Benz 190E (Abuja: AS 774 RSH); Toyota Highlander (DUK 273 AA) and a motorcycle.”
One of the victims of the accident mentioned that the auto crash happened around 7.45pm on Sunday, June 26, 2016.
He also stated that though no life was lost, no rescue agency came to their aid many hours after the accident.
Instead, a team of policemen who saw the accident allegedly took no action, leaving the victims to suffer.
“It (truck) first hit the Toyota Highlander, which was heading towards Calabar. After that, it hit the Toyota Sienna, and then the Volkswagen Golf. It then crushed the Mitsubishi car before the Mercedes Benz”, the victim said.
Some unknown road users however took action and let the injured to the hospital. This was according to an eye witness named Matthew Michael.
“Motorists were reluctant to convey the injured victims to hospitals. A few of us had to use our vehicles to convey the victims to the hospitals.
“Some policemen, who were in a patrol vehicle, left the scene as soon as the accident occurred.”
Officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) later joined the kind-hearted road users in attending to the situation.
